The text screenshots are worth the read - So I moved last month, new apt in Brooklyn. Love the space, the neighborhood, decent rent. Three cats.

My roommate and downstairs neighbor keep bikes locked to the handrail, taking up >50% of the width of the hallway. Spoke w my roommate and put polite sticky notes on the neighbor's door, asking for a bike free hall.

My roommate obliged immediately!! My neighbor however... has been texting me over the last 2 weeks essentially refusing to do a thing. Tons of pity-me energy and passive aggressiveness. - "Sorry this is a slight inconvenience for you, hmmm ②

They won't: • store bike on the bottom floor where there is more room • store bike outside with a lock (fear of theft) • put the bike in their apartment (no space) . buy a wall mount (no money) • let me spot them $ for the mount (not comfortable)

I'm a large guy. Every day I scoot past this bike and if I have groceries/packages/coats then there's no getting around it; we have to bang the bike up as we scoot on by.

I get it bike storage is tricky. But it's not on me to figure out. The bike is obtrusive and 100% violates fire code. I emailed property management about it today, two weeks after the post it's. Now the neighbor is calling

2:10 e LTE 50 Hey this is iMessage Sun, Oct 6 at 5:46 PM from apt 2. gave me ur number. My roommate let me know about the note you left and I just want to clarify. Do you want me to move the bike for a specific purpose temporarily or do you want me to move it indefinitely? I'm happy to do the former but the latter is a bit of an issue. Hey The bikes are too wide for the hall - I think it's also NYC fire code to have clear hallways. Coming through with anything like groceries/furniture/coats will

+ 2:10 e pe one less flight for you I'm sorry it's a bit of an inconvenience for you, hmm. I'll think about a potential compromise, but please understand I don't have a lot of flexibility, there really isn't much space for it inside my unit. As far as the fire code, those bikes have been locked in the hallway for over 2 years and building management hasn't ever made a problem of it. I'm nervous about putting it downstairs because I can't lock it down there. And there is no part of this equation

+ 2:10 just please take my limitations into account LTE 50 I'm asking Sure! I appreciate that if we can get a new fridge in our unit - it's blocking my bedroom door and she mentioned replacing it eventually. If that happens in the near future I'd coordinate with yall and find out when they would need the space clear I totally understand your situation with the bike - is keeping hers in our common space but only bc we were able to make room for it Cool, Imk. And thanks for not being about it. Oh

1 2:10 LTE 50 Hey Wed, Oct 9 at 9:15 AM good morning. What do you think you can do with your bike? Wall mounts are less than $50, I can spot that if you really need. hasn't been using her bike and I think it's bc moving it past yours in the hall is too much hassle. Also we may be moving some furniture in/out of our spot in the next week so I'd love to resolve this soon. Lemme know how I can help! Wed, Oct 9 at 2:21 PM I'm broke as! I right now, so if ur down to spot me that would be appreciated.

2:10 LTE 50 Let me know the night before u move furniture and I'll move it. is this a mobility issue btw? I'm gonna be busy the rest of the night but I'll look at some wall mounts tonight online and send u some I find. I would normally pay for it myself and not make it ur problem but u caught me at my lowest point financially this year tbh I literally have enough money to get through the week and have no prospects of clients in the future and I don't have a credit card or anything cuz I don't tr

2:10 LTE 50 Wed, Oct 9 at 7:49 PM Honestly I don't trust American anything, let alone banks. Maybe some old American shoe makers lol but it's all good! I'll let you know about the furniture, and I appreciate you as well for being understanding! Send me any links you find I'm happy to help out :) Hey Today 6:15 AM let's figure out what to do with the bike, I can spot you like I said. Let me know, thanks! 2:10 LTE 50 not existentially broke anymore thank god. 3. The only solution I have so far is setting my bike at the end of the hallway. Which actually isn't a solution bc it can't be locked. L(ツ)」 Okay so what do you want to do? Let's move the bike, it's been long enough right? I'm more comfortable lending $30 for a bike rack than to either slide against the wall or bang your bike every day Happy to move the bike literally whenever temporarily, but unless there's a disability issue I don't see w

2:10 LTE 50 additional money I don't have would be have to be wasted and spent on completely reconfiguring my living room furniture. There's no space for the bike back in here I am empathetic but you're basically saying "no" to everything which is a little frustrating I thought I could find something that would put that bike vertical and parallel to the wall but those are kind of a rare design for bikes. They're all perpendicular. I mentioned this to. about her bike. She totally understood and w

2:10 LTE 50 What do you want me to do? 1 Reply I'm actively looking for solutions. Unfortunately just moving some stuff around in my living room isn't one. like I said it would require literally just having to sacrifice furniture we have and even then probably moving everything because every bit of space is used up. 2 Replies What do you want me to do? 1 2:10 LTE 50 You can't move stuff in your apt? Why not? You also said you've been looking for racks. There are hundreds online. Shouldn't be an issue I'm frustrated bc I have no better solutions to offer you and I'm frankly I'm also frustrated that someone's who's been living here shorter than anyone else is asking me to do something that is actually a lot more complicated than it seems. 1 Reply it's nyc, people take up common space in the hallways. We do what we can. like plz cut me some slack

Your reasoning here: Since no one else has advocated against the bike blocking the hallway that it's ok? it's nyc, people take up common space in the hallways. We do what we can. like plz cut me some slack. It would be totally fine if the hall want 3ft across max The only complication is coming from your end. You can't find a good rac

1 2:10 LTE 50 The only complication is coming from your end. You can't find a good rack? Won't put it in the bottom floor where there's room? I'm assuming you think one of us or a mailman or a barber from downstairs would take your bike. You were okay with me spotting you money and now you aren't. Tells me that the money was never really the issue Like this could be a Reddit post lol You're making a lot of assumptions. I'm done here, you've crossed the line telling on me to the property managers

THE BIKE IS GONE! Which is good because so was my patience. I did everything I could and way more than I ever should have to solve this without being petty. Even offered to pay for her wall mount seeing how she's essentially unemployed.
